As a Second Life resident and live music host/manager, how do you describe yourself, and where does your interest in music come from?
We would describe ourselves as passionate advocates for creativity, connection, and community. Music has always been a major part of our journey in both real life and Second Life—it’s a universal language that brings people together, creates unforgettable moments, and tells stories words alone can’t express. Roxy’s love for music comes from performing in Real Life and bringing her music into Second Life. Cody has always been a DJ in Second Life and loved music.
How long have you been a host/manager in Second Life? What drew you to this project?
We’ve been involved in the music part of Second life for three years now, with Lyrical being at the heart of that journey. We wanted to create a space where music isn’t just background noise—it’s the soul of every gathering. Lyrical was born out of a passion for live performances and a desire to give artists a platform to shine while fostering a welcoming community for music lovers. Seeing people come together, share moments, and connect through music is what keeps us inspired every single day.
What do you do in real life, and how do you relate to music outside of Second Life?
In real life, Roxy was a live performer on stage, and Cody works in IT. Our combined backgrounds created the perfect synergy to build something special in Second Life, which also led us to create the SL Music Discord. We wanted to create a Discord server for performers, djs and venues where they can share about their upcoming shows without having the worry of dealing with the technical side of a Discord Server. Each performer or venue has their own channel where they can share their love of music and potentially reach new viewers.
How do you usually spend your time as a Second Life resident? Any projects?
Our time is always filled with creativity and connection. We manage Lyrical, our live music venue, where we bring people together through incredible performances and a welcoming atmosphere. Roxy also perform regularly as a live singer, sharing my love for music on stages across the grid. Beyond that, we are deeply involved in organizing the SL Living Expo, an event close to our hearts that supports Relay For Life of Second Life. When we’re not hosting or performing, you’ll often find us decorating themed regions or building immersive spaces, like our latest project, Let’s-A-Go, inspired by Mario Kart. Every project we take on is about creating memorable experiences, whether it’s through music, events, or creative design.
What are the positives and negatives of hosting live music events?
It’s an incredibly rewarding experience, but like anything, it comes with its highs and lows.
On the positive side: There’s nothing quite like the magic of bringing people together through music. Seeing an audience connect with an artist, feeling the energy of a live performance, and knowing you’ve created a space where those moments can happen is deeply fulfilling. It’s also a chance to support talented musicians, build a vibrant community, and foster connections between people from all around the world.
On the flip side: It can be demanding. Balancing schedules, managing technical issues, and dealing with occasional last-minute changes or no-shows can be stressful. There’s also the challenge of maintaining consistent audience engagement and navigating the financial aspects of running events. But at the end of the day, the joy of seeing people share laughter, emotions, and memories at an event you’ve hosted makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Anything you would like to add?
At the end of the day, hosting live music events in Second Life isn’t just about managing schedules or setting up stages—it’s about creating moments. Moments where someone discovers their new favorite artist, where an audience sings along in perfect harmony, or where a performer feels truly seen and appreciated. It’s those little sparks of magic that keep us coming back, pouring our hearts into every event, every song, and every connection. Whether it’s through Lyrical, the SL Music Discord, or events like the SL Living Expo, we’re not just hosting shows—we’re building a community.
